Suvitha Viswanathan is a third-year medical student at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Class of 2027. Her interests include reproductive health and justice, trauma-informed care, and expanding health equity for underserved populations through education and advocacy. Suvitha earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Georgia before continuing to pursue an MD at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine.

Throughout medical school, Suvitha has been involved in the Chicago Area Schweitzer Fellowship, Health Professionals Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP), the Medical Student Forum on Female Sexual Medicine, and the Period Education Project. She has also continuously volunteered with the Cottage Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center, based in Georgia, since 2020.

Through the Schweitzer Fellowship, Suvitha collaborated with Gilda’s Club Chicago to offer patient-centered educational resources and workshops on sexual health for women and people living with cancer. Her involvement with HPREP focused on expanding health care career opportunities and experiences for high school students in surrounding Chicago Public Schools. In her work with The Medical Student Forum on Female Sexual Medicine, Suvitha has served as an Education Committee Member and contributed to projects examining female sexual health in medical school curriculum. As a member of the Period Education Project, Suvitha helps to lead menstrual health education workshops for youth across the country, building on her previous work in the menstrual equity space.

Suvitha started writing with Prosayla to create accessible and illuminating articles on understudied areas of vaginal and vulvar health. By working through this platform, she hopes to help promote standard of care improvements for patients with vulvar health challenges and empower patients to advocate for themselves as well. Suvitha looks forward to continuously learning about and expanding the field of reproductive health throughout her medical career and she is excited to join Prosayla’s collaborative learning community while on that journey.
